The ninjas took us inside in two groups. When it was our turn we walked in and faced a closed door. Our hostess told us that a ninja would suddenly appear our of somewhere and guide us and gave two loud claps. Excited, we looked around in anticipation. Nothing…. Then we turned around and instead of popping out, this ninja just kinda strolled out of a door behind the hostess’s door. Oh…., well, wow, be still my pounding heart… really.

The ninja then guided us through a dark hallway, a few sharp turns and some low lying beams, yelling the whole time how ninjas are experts at navigating such obstacles. Interesting but not really exciting, our ninja sounded kinda bored, I’d say that the haunted houses at the local park during Halloween are more exciting. Maybe it would be better if we were Japanese and he didn’t have to speak English…(you can hear a brief recording of it on my Flikr)

The restaurant was interesting; it was dimly lit, just well enough to not trip. Each party had their own room, and a tape of howling wind and chirping crickets played loudly overhead. Feels like you’re sitting in the middle of a hurricane. This did help in muting the loud conversations going on in other rooms. Or they could be yelling to be heard over the wind.

We then reached our private room where once again we had to remove our shoes. The ninja waitress provided us with menu scrolls and told us to press the secret button hidden under the table when we’re ready.

IMG_0333We picked a few things that looked interesting. Some people ordered multi-course meals, I got a fried rice in bamboo shoots served with a flare. When it came out, it was, quite literally, exactly as described. A bamboo shoot filled with fried rice that was set on fire as it was placed on the table. The food was pricey and more about the presentation than the actual taste. Overall it tasted ok, not bad but not exceptionally good either.

Near the end of our meal, which took a while because 2 of the couples got something like an 8 course meal, a ninja magician showed up. He then spent about 10 minutes doing close up magic tricks. Not quite Magic Castle quality but pretty good for a restaurant. We were entertained.
