Since the primary reason we’re here this time is to visit my grandmother, my mom and I tried not to do too much during the day.  We’d typically spend the day at home and then go out for a few hours in the afternoon or evening when my grandmother is resting.

I spend most of my days puttering about and taking naps =P
Taiwan night marketToday, my mom called up one of her college friends, they decided to hang out and do some shopping after work.  We went to a popular street alley to shop for clothes. It was one of those places where people had tiny hole in the wall shops. Goods were placed on wooden planks and makeshift displays. You can hear the owners standing near the entrances calling out to people as they pass by to come and look at the stuff. We stopped by a few shops that were selling clothes for nt60 and nt100. Now that’s what I’m talking about… cheap clothes =P Shopping for clothes there involved digging into 3 feet tall piles of clothes.  Not a single hanger was in sight.  They didn’t allow people to try on clothes so you pretty much have no idea how the item would look once it’s on.  But for $2 an article of clothing, I wasn’t complaining.  When we were done, we had spent nt2000 and came out with three huge bags. It was awesome, I think I’m starting to have fun =P

For dinner, my mom’s friend took us to this vegetarian restaurant/buffet where you pay by weight.  First you grab a plate and then you go around the buffet bar, putting whatever you want, and at the end of the line you put your plate on a scale, they weight it and you pay.  Interesting….it’s a good way to keep people from eating too much and or wasting food.
